The recording and slides from the free session on 22 October 2026.
On Thursday 22 October, I ran a free one-hour session on AI-native biodesign. It was for designers, architects, educators and students who are curious about working with AI and living matter. You don’t need any biology, coding or lab experience.
If you missed it, or want to watch it again, the recording and the slides are below.
What an AI-native biodesigner is: a designer of living matter who works with AI models from the start of a project, reads what their outputs cannot show, and asks what a change would mean for the organisms and people involved.
Why the living matter leads, while AI is in the work from day one.
The 3 parts of working this way: judgement, fluency and care. And why judgement matters most.
How the six-week course AI-Native Biodesign: With Proteins builds each part, week by week.
Questions from the people who came.
If the session made you want to go further, AI-Native Biodesign: With Proteins is a six-week online course. It starts on Thursday 5 November.
Each week has 4 parts: one idea in plain words, one tool you run in your browser, one real biodesign case, and one step on your own studio or biofabrication project.
Over the six weeks, you move towards working as an AI-native biodesigner:
The course works through proteins. They are one place where AI-native biodesign happens, and a way to get to know living matter at the molecular level, not only to change it.
